    We are looking for a high caliber Business Development Director located in Tokyo, Japan to develop new business offerings within our newly formed Automotive Business at UL. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing the local/regional/global industry trends and while working with sales and technical teams to determine customer needs and develop new and innovating services.


    He/she will be responsible for the overall coordination and development of key business development including working with appropriate stakeholders inside and outside of UL which includes identifying business demand drivers, specific service offerings, setting targets for establishing service offerings, tracking, coaching, and allocating resources to achieve these objectives.


    • Specifically responsible for Asia Pacific for Automotive business development and business plan execution. Includes working with internal and external stakeholders to get approvals, seek funding, manage project budgets and timelines and project teams from concept to lab opening.
    • Facilitates the development and execution of targeted business sectors in key industries within assigned business unit and prioritizes this development based upon size of opportunity, strategic importance and likelihood of success to grow the company’s long-term business relationships with key global and regional customers.
    • Meets with executives and senior management to maximize the coordination of objectives, strategies and associated policies and practices.
    • Represents the organization in appropriate committees and forums involving specific product categories. Provide external leadership through presentations and technical articles and arranging meetings with executives in key industries
    • Manages the performance of direct reports by developing accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance and ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered to.
    • Responsible for the execution and delivery of assigned goals from concept through to go-live.



    • Degree holder with at least twelve years of commercial and business development experience in the automotive industry (including but not limited to Connected Car, In-car Intelligence, Electric Vehicle);
    • Experience working with OEMs / Manufacturers / Suppliers are preferred;
    • Solid track record in developing and launching new business offerings;
    • Broad knowledge in Automotive products, their technology trends and demand drivers;
    • Strong business acumen and highly developed communication and relationship skills;
    • Self-initiative and solid experience in working in a cross-cultural environment;
    • Have a strong growth mindset and an entrepreneur spirit.
